Disney’s Castaway Cay, Bahamas
Castaway Cay is Disney’s private island. It’s a popular port of call on the Bahamas Disney cruises and there are so many things to do in Castaway Cay. However, far from what you might imagine, the island remains mostly undeveloped.
The Disney researchers and crew there are committed to the health of the reef and protection of several aspects of conservation. The dishwashing, laundry, and bathing of the on-site crew is made possible with heaters powered by solar energy.
Also, a waste management fleet in Nassau receives its fuel from 7,000 pounds of recycled cooking oil each week. Disney also works hard to preserve the local wildlife, such as the endangered loggerhead turtle and long-spined sea urchins.
Plenty to Do at Castaway Cay
Although this island paradise maintains much of its natural luster, There are plenty of island activities for all ages to take part in. On Castaway Cay you will find whole beaches catered to your particular interests. They are even divided up by age group.
There is a family beach, a Sports Beach, and Scuttle’s cove, for the littlest travelers. Adults only Serenity Bay is a tranquil beach for cruisers 18 and older. You can enjoy massages in an open-air cabana and enjoy ice-cold cocktails.
Among the many activities, you can enjoy on Castaway Cay are several that are family-friendly. Snorkeling, Kayaking, Parasailing and jet skiing are all part of the fun for all ages to enjoy.
There are also kids clubs for youth only and they have excursions of their own that involve some of these activities.
Just like on the ship, teens have their own hideaway on Castaway Cay. The Teen Hideout is exclusively for kids 14 to 17 and it’s their own private beach where they can bond with their peers and lounge, independent of the other beach activities.
The Wild Side Teen Adventure is a great opportunity for teens to hang out with new friends while snorkeling, cycling and speed boating.
Also near the family beach is a game pavilion, which is tons of fun, but there is so much more great stuff to enjoy about Castaway Cay than just the awesome beaches.
Bike Ride to the Lookout
One activity you have to do that is fun for the whole family is the bike ride to the lookout. It’s a lot of fun and it’s really scenic. Although the ocean is a major attraction of Castaway Cay and everybody loves the beach, the bike ride is a really fantastic way to get to know the island itself.
Feel the wind rush by your face as you cruise through the bike path along groves of palm trees, and passed an airstrip to a lookout point where you can stop and take some phenomenal photos.
Castaway cay 5 K
Castaway Cay has a 5 K that you can sign up for and run on the island. If you like to participate in 5 Ks this is great fun, and if you have never done it before, this is a really good place to give it a try. There is a commemorative medal for you when you reach the finish line and there is also plenty of 5 K merchandise sold on the island.

This run is a good way to work off some of the excess weight we all put on from eating so much on the Disney Cruise Line. It’s also, just one more way to see the inland sights and get your cardio going once you get off the ship.
Glass Bottom Boat Tour
One of the best port adventures to sign up for is the glass bottom boat tour. Whether or not you like to snorkel, this is a great experience that anybody can enjoy.
Stay dry onboard your glass-bottom boat while looking below at the marine life and the contours of the ocean floor through the crystal clear waters of the Bahamas. This is a fun activity for all ages and a wonderful way to see the ocean from a new perspective.
Pelican Plunge
This barge is 2,400 square feet. It’s a little man-made island/playground of twisting, turning waterslides and a giant spill bucket. It’s a Castaway Cay must-do for sure. These slides are a lot of fun and dump you right into the ocean water.

You have to swim out to this barge just to try it out. The name Pelican Plunge is a celebration of the pelicans that are native to the island. This is the most fun you can have in the water without making a whole excursion out of it.
Cookies BBQ/Air Bar BBQ
On Castaway Cay, your food is taken care of just like it is on the ship.
There are all you care to enjoy barbecue kitchens set up at both the family beach and at Serenity Bay. You can’t miss the opportunity to indulge in all this BBQ. As much as you want of whatever you want is really fantastic after working up an appetite from all those Castaway Cay must-do experiences.
More Castaway Cay Must-Do Activities
Among the port adventures, you can get reservations for are snorkeling, kayaking, Jet Skiing, speed boating, and parasailing. There are also stingray encounters to sign up for and multiple fishing excursions.
Besides these Castaway Cay must-do activities, there are also plenty of Disney details you can find all around the island and even in the water.
Not even a private island can escape a hidden mickey hunt. Keep your eyes open for fun Disney homages like Mt. Rushmore.
This collection of rusted metal bears the likenesses of Mickey, Pluto Donald, and Goofy. It’s on the way to the family beach and it’s the most photographed location on this amazingly picturesque island.

Of course, you can see the actual characters themselves having just as great a time on the island as you are. Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy are available for photos and autographs. Plus, they even have on their beachwear.
If you have time on your way back to the cruise ship, make sure to stop by the hair braid stand. Our daughters had so much fun with this! These unique braids are a wonderful Disney Cruise souvenir!
One final thing to know about Castaway Cay is that you do not need to worry about tiring before you get back to the dock. There are trams that run to and from the beach regularly, so you have the convenience of travel on top of everything else.
