Father Daughter Relationship

I don’t bring up my dad much. In fact, I was not close to my father at all growing up. Sometimes I wonder if he were to ever pick up the phone, would he even know what to say? Oh, how I wish I could hear his voice again. Just an occasional phone call or to hear the words “I miss you” would mean the world to me. If you are a father, there are just some things in life that your daughter needs to hear. If I had a relationship with my father, these are some of the things I would have wanted him to say to me.

“I love you.”

Every little girl and big girl needs to hear that her father loves her. The love between a father and daughter is something special. When a little girl hears that her father loves her, it can mean the world to her. Girls first learn what love is from their dads. If they don’t learn it from their dads, they’ll learn it from the world and the world has a different perspective on what love really is.

“You are special.”

What better way to know that you are special than from your own father? Sometimes dads just don’t know what to say. So if you’re struggling for the right words dad, tell your daughter that she is special. Feeling special is important!

“I’ll always be here for you.”

When a girl needs someone to be there for her, hopefully, she can count on her dad. Dad always let your daughter know that you’ll always be there for her. In a world of confusion, this statement can mean everything to your daughter.

“You are beautiful.”

A girl will hear she is beautiful many times in her life, but it’s most important when coming from her dad. She needs to hear she is beautiful! You don’t have to just use the words beautiful. You can tell her that she’s pretty, smart, fun, and any other word that describes her. Letting her know this gives her confidence in life and she’ll need lots of that!

“You can tell me anything.”

Growing up in today’s world is super hard. A girl needs to be able to tell her dad anything. If you are a “daddy’s girl” you totally need him there to listen to anything and everything you have to say. Dads—never miss an opportunity to listen to your daughters when they have something to tell you!

“I’ll always protect you.”

There are some big and scary things in life, a girl has every right to be afraid. It’s wonderful when she can call up her father and know he will protect her. Dads- your daughter needs you to say that you will protect her no matter what! She needs to know that you are her protector, no matter what stage of life she’s in.

“Sure, I’ll do that.”

Dads, there are going to be times when your daughter wants you to do a makeover, get your nails painted, or even have a tea party. Dads, don’t say no because you may just miss out on a special time with your daughter. Memories are what childhoods are made of, so make sure you’re saying yes and often!
