Barnsley Resort
If you’re looking for a very special place that you can relax, enjoy outdoor recreation, plus be in awe of a beautiful, exclusive resort property away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city of Atlanta, then a family-friendly weekend getaway at Barnsley Resort is needed.
Located only an hour and a half north of Atlanta, you will discover this 3,000-acre hidden gem. When entering the gates, you will be taken back into time, similar to an English inspired village as a community.
The Barnsley Resort & Gardens is truly considered “Southern Beauty” full of history and charm.
From the moment that you arrive, Barnsley Resort is one of those destination places that just instantly make you feel like you are at home. Everyone who works there goes above and beyond in making certain that you and your family have everything you need to live your best weekend life.
In my opinion, Barnsley Resort sets the bar high. Our daughters vary in ages but both agree that their time here was packed full of fun. While mom and dad thought this weekend was a perfect (much needed) relaxing getaway!

Outdoor Recreation
The grounds of Barnsley Resort offers so many activities that you and your family will truly enjoy and make some wonderful memories with. They offer fishing, kayaking, canoeing, tennis, golf, swim, biking, horseback riding, hiking…. so much!
If your family likes to be outdoors, the resort offers free use of kayaks, canoes, and fishing poles. Being able to take out a canoe onto the water, fish, and see that morning sunrise is one experience that I highly suggest that you do.
Plus, pack up your discs for some frisbee golf as well! They have several holes there that are perfect for tossing. (or in my case, chasing)
What I think I loved most about being here was that everything available to do was within walking distance. We loved hanging out on the lawn and playing lawn games because it gave us a chance to relax and just enjoy being together. (plus, we had a pretty awesome game of corn hole going on as well!)
Make certain to pack your clubs and enjoy 378 acres of greens, too. (and if you forget, you can always rent some while you’re there)
Saltwater Swimming Pool
Pack up those swimming suits because the pool here is so relaxing! I must say that the view from the pool was awesome as well. It overlooked the golf course and was right in the middle of all the action.
We spent quite a bit of time in the pool because it’s always one of our favorite spots to just relax and hang out.

Manor House Ruins and Museum

The Woodlands, Known As The Manor House Ruins
I highly recommend a visit to the Manor House Ruins & Museum. If you are a history buff like me, the historic ruins and museum are fascinating to explore, which feature Barnsley and Civil War history, articles and artifacts.
You may also run into Historian & Museum Director Clent Coker, author of “Barnsley Gardens at Woodlands.” His book shares his passion, connection, and knowledge for Barnsley history and gardens.
Don’t forget to take a stroll through the beautiful gardens surrounding the Manor House Ruins. You will be in awe.
Weddings & Meeting Space
From the beautiful settings of the Manor House Ruins and gardens, it is no wonder why Barnsley Resort is ranked 26 Coolest Places To Get Married and “One of the ‘South’s Best Wedding Venues’” – Southern Living.
They hold weddings at the beautiful Manor House Ruins, Savannah Ballroom, The Town Hall, The Georgian Hall, the Georgian Veranda, or the Estate Lawn.
With experienced wedding planners on staff, they can help take the stress away from planning your special day for you, so you don’t have to.
Dining options on-site at the Barnsley Resort
As I mentioned earlier, this resort has it all. From fine dining to more casual, you won’t have to step foot off the property to grab a delicious bite to eat.
-
Woodlands Grill
Although this restaurant was closed for renovations during our stay, the menu options range and vary here. They offer some delicious choices for each member of your family.
There is even an option to order up a nice picnic lunch to take out with your while you hike about and explore the grounds.
-
Rice House
This 19th-century farmhouse is where you can dine and experience “farm to fork” cuisine. I highly recommend that you make reservations at this restaurant, as it does book up quick. Read more about

Beer Garden
During our stay, we enjoyed quite a few quick meals at the Beer Garden. It is a comfortable, outdoor space where you can walk up and order breakfast burritos or biscuits. For lunch or dinner, they offer BBQ, Southern snacks, and craft beer.

During the dinner hour, you will even find live entertainment.
Barnsley Resort Events
One other aspect that sets this resort apart from others is that they have amazing events for their guests throughout the year. We stayed during the 4th of July celebration and I can promise you that this special event didn’t disappoint.
There were various games set up for the evening’s festivities. We certainly enjoyed the live entertainment, All American style buffet, corn hole games and for the finale, the anticipated fireworks show that they put on during the evening hour.
We lost count at how many fireworks that went off but I can promise you that it was better than others that we’ve watched before.
While some may have been able to watch the show from their rooms, we couldn’t wait to get outside and secure our place on the lawn. I’m so glad that we did because the colors were absolutely stunning.
Other events to have on your radar are:
- Labor Day Weekend (August 30th – September 01)
- Family Fishing Contest (September 01)
- Guided Full Moon Hike (September 14)
- Thanksgiving Day Buffet (November 28)
- Christmas Dining (December 25)
These are just some of the events! They have a daily and weekend calendar that is full of a ton of other great activities and options as well!
For your next family getaway, consider the Barnsley Resort. It’s a beautiful, historic location has something for everyone to enjoy. Pack up the family and be ready to be treated like one of the family instantly! You’re going to love your stay.
