My family and I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Kennedy Space Center and we honestly can’t wait to go back. We spent the entire day there educating ourselves about space and loved it. Plus we even were able to meet an actual female astronaut!
Trust me, you’re going to want to visit here during your family travels!
7 Reasons to Visit the Kennedy Space Center as a Family
While there are way more than 5 reasons to visit, these are just a few of the ones that can’t be missed!
-
Take a ride on the Shuttle Launch Experience
Take a ride and find out what it feels like to orbit into space with the Shuttle Launch Experience. This Shuttle Launch Experience lasts over 8 minutes and you’ll get an inside view and feel of what it feels like to go flying through space.
The capsule moves and the seat tilts with some 3D effect on the screen. You will not want to bring your belongings inside for this ride, so free lockers are provided outside for your convenience.
-
The Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour
Not only does this bus tour allow you comfort and access to restricted areas that the general public can’t go, but you’ll also get to see the working spaceflight facility where America actually launched to the moon!
During this guided tour, you’ll get to hear from experts in the field talk about how NASA is preparing for more future space exploration.
-
IMAX 3D Theater
Even though you might not physically be able to be in space, you’ll feel like you are with the IMAX 3D theater. Three movies are offered daily and are included with the price of your admission. (I do recommend splurging on the popcorn!)
While the movies being shown may vary, you can rest easy knowing that each one of them will offer stellar views and amazing facts about space and the future of our space program! Get ready to sit back, relax and be surrounded by the wonders of our solar system.
-
Visit with and meet a real astronaut
Bring your cameras and have your questions ready because you and your family will have the opportunity to meet a veteran astronaut face to face.
During our visit, we were able to meet Dr. Anna Fisher, selected as an astronaut by NASA in January 1978 as one of the first six female astronauts.
Not only will they answer your questions, but they also take the time to talk about their experiences during a live presentation and Q&A session.
-
Take a stroll through the mesmerizing rocket garden
Get ready to feel tiny and small in stature in this garden of rockets. Make certain to take a guided tour to learn all about the history of rockets.
-
See all the heroes and legends at the U.S Astronaut Hall of Fame
While you might be aware that there have been hundreds of astronauts throughout time, you probably don’t realize just how many have been indicted to the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame.
Plus, taking a walkthrough will open your eyes to all the men and women who have devoted their lives to exploring and educating us all about space!
-
Eat some delicious food at the Orbit Cafe
One great feature of visiting the Kennedy Space Center is that they have a cafe there onsite so you don’t have to worry about even leaving.
Plus, it’s a great place to kick up your feet and talk to your family about all the exhibits and information that you’ve just viewed. And can I just say that they serve some super fresh and filling food?!
Mom’s Final Thoughts
I honestly can’t stress highly enough that a trip to the Kennedy Space Center needs to happen. From the moment that we arrived till the moment that we left, our entire family was amazed at all the information and history that we were able to fill our minds with. You will need to schedule a full two days to experience it all.
In fact, we were still talking about it long after we left. As a mom, I loved entertaining my children while educating them at the same time. If you’re going to be in Florida during the summer months, adding this to your vacation list is a must!
Don’t forget to check out the gift shop on your way out! There are a ton of great souvenirs (like these cool Tie Dye t-shirts) that are perfect for every member of the family!
