What Is A Christmas Wreath?

A Christmas wreath is a circle-shaped ornament made from twigs, leaves, and flowers. Though they were traditionally worn on the head and neck, they are now used in hallways, above fireplaces, and on front doors.

Decorations To Add To Christmas Wreath Drawing

  • Fruit – stick to the winter fruit that’s in season that won’t spoil fast, such as citrus, for a realistic drawing.
  • Pinecones – pinecones are seasonal, so they look natural on a wreath.
  • Acorns – acorns are cute and will add something unique to your wreath.
  • Thistle – the prickles on a thistle will add a geometric touch to the wreath.
  • Twigs and sprigs – twigs and sprigs are a must; using pine and other evergreens is a good choice.
  • Holly – holly is a great Christmas choice that adds a splash of color. Mistletoe is a good option as well.
  • Garland – all you need for a good wreath is garland wrapped around a hoop, making it a good base for a drawing.
  • Eucalyptus – eucalyptus smells good and has healing properties; for a Christmas wreath drawing, it can add a special touch.

How To Draw A Christmas Wreath Step-By-Step

Supplies

  • Colored pencils
  • Paper

Step 1: Draw a Circle, Then Another

Draw a circle for the outside of the wreath. Then draw another inside of it to create a donut-like shape.

Step 2: Wrap It in Ribbon

Create diagonal lines on the wreath, as if a ribbon were wrapped around it. Leave space at the bottom or top for the bow.

Step 3: Add Foliage

Flock the edges to make it look like branches rather than the flat edge of the donut shape. Then erase the previous line.

Step 4: Add a Bow

Add a bow to your drawing. It can be large or small; as long as it looks festive, then it’s good.

Step 5: Add Decorations

Add ornaments, flowers, and more decorations. Get a picture in your head of what color they will be.

Step 6: Color

Now color your Christmas wreath. The greenery is traditionally green, but it can be white or silver. The rest is up to you.

Tips For Drawing A Christmas Wreath

  • Add unconventional flowers – you can add daisies, cherry blossoms, or any other plant to your wreath drawing.
  • Add toys – add a toy truck, doll, or top to give a youthful appearance to your drawing.
  • Add a background – wreaths are often found above fireplaces, on front doors, or in the hallways.
  • Decorate with Christmas ornaments – add Christmas balls or gingerbread boys to your wreath to make it extra festive.
  • Turn trash into treasure – drawing a wreath made out of trash is a good way to symbolize new life and finding the good in everything.
  • Add words – a strong Merry Christmas across the wreath will be fun to add if you love calligraphy.
