Sandy Creek Sporting Grounds
Sandy Creek Sporting Grounds – An Outdoorsy Paradise
Sandy Creek Sporting Grounds is like nothing else I’ve ever experienced. Named for the gorgeous stream that shapes the topography of the area surrounding Lake Oconee, Sandy Creek is just about one of the most beautiful natural settings in Georgia.
The sporting ground is supervised by Justin Jones, an international shooting champion out of Great Britain, and one of the world’s leading experts in the art of developing and managing elite resort shooting facilities.
If you’re not familiar with what a resort shooting facility is, it’s basically a playground for shooting sports – both gun and bow. This type of resort is about challenging your shooting skills while enjoying the beauty of nature.
There is no hunting involved. It’s all very safe. Both adults and children alike can enjoy the twenty-station clays course, five stand shooting range, air rifle range, and an archery range.
If shooting isn’t your thing, you can enjoy all of the other great outdoors activities that Sandy Creek Sporting Grounds has to offer like fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and hiking. It really is a nature lover’s dream.
Clay Shooting at Sandy Creek Sporting Grounds
I have to be honest, you guys. I’m not exactly a tomgirl. I’m not averse to outdoorsy stuff, and I’ve done my share of camping. That being said, I’m not Bear Grylls. In fact, this weekend getaway was the first time I ever shot a gun.
No, we weren’t hunting. I don’t hunt. I love cuddly creatures too much. We did, however get to give shooting a try. It was an exciting experience. I actually got to learn how to hold, use, and – most importantly – respect a gun. It was quite a memorable experience shooting first hand and actually learn a little about the sport of shooting.
There is actually quite a science to sport shooting. You don’t just point and shoot. There’s an entire gentlemen’s (or ladies’) philosophy involved. There’s a science to shooting clay. Following the path. Anticipating where it will be in the air before you shoot.
It’s really very cool. And we got to learn about all of it while our guide led us through the course. It’s a little bit like golfing in that it’s a course that you drive around to all the stations on a golf cart.
A Sandy Creek Sporting Grounds Getaway is Fun for All
The shooting courses and archery range at Sandy Creek Sporting Grounds are designed for men, women, and children. They’re all-encompassing and make for an exciting family experience, and if you aren’t interested in shooting, you can still enjoy a multitude of outdoor activities. What’s more, the grounds offer wonderful restaurants like Breakfast at Eighty8 Kitchen and National Tavern, two wonderful places that offer a wonderful dining experience for all ages.
In addition, you can enjoy the comfortable, cozy cottages at Reynolds Lake Oconee, which are located near Sandy Creek Sporting Grounds for easy travel to and from the area. If you also love to golf, this is the place you would want to stay.
Overall, a getaway to Sandy Creek Sporting Grounds in Greensboro Georgia is a fantastic time. Although I’m not going to go off-grid anytime soon, I had a fantastic time enjoying the beauty of the sporting grounds with my husband and experiencing a clay range for the first time.
