Banana Cream Whoopie Pies – A True Southern Thing

Bananas are life. You can walk into a store and buy them for a small price. Nothing beats an inexpensive piece of fruit to make a delicious dessert. Banana Cream Whoopie pies are everything in this house ya’ll and you don’t want to miss out on them. Whoopie pies are a true southern thing. They kind of remind me of the Moon Pies that my grandmother would always buy for us. If you live in the south, you know whoopie pies are as important as sweet tea. Ya’ll might as well figure out how to whip yourself up some of these Banana Cream Whoopie Pies. I can tell you now that people will be banging on your door to get the recipe. When I whip up a batch of these, there are zero left within the hour.

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  •  Mix cake mix, flour, water, oil, eggs and banana in a bowl.
    • Spoon onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (or grease your baking sheet if you don’t have parchment paper). I used a 2 tablespoon portion scoop for my pies. Use the back of a spoon to spread them out to about 2-3″ in diameter.
    • Bake for 11-13 minutes. Let cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet and move to a cooling rack to cool completely.
    • When pies are cooled completely, spread a generous amount of cream cheese frosting on one, and top with the other. Sprinkle walnuts on the exposed frosting edges if desired.
    • Makes 18-20 pies.
