It’s safe to say that Stone Mountain Park has something for everyone in the family. Whether you’re looking for a weekend getaway, staycation or just a fun family outing to burn off some summer energy, Stone Mountain Park is waiting and ready to provide.

While each member of our family had their favorite activities and events, I can promise you that we had an amazing time together as a family exploring everything that Stone Mountain Park had to offer.

11 Tips when Visiting Stone Mountain Park

If you’re planning a trip to Stone Mountain Park, you’re going to love having these tips in your back pocket!

While everything about the park is very family and user-friendly, you might find that some of these suggestions can help out your family even more.

1. Check out their events calendar before planning your visit

Stone Mountain Park is amazing on a daily basis, but they do have special events and activities going on that are worth a peek as well.

From festivals to Labor Day, Pumpkin, and Christmas celebrations, they’re always finding a reason to go above and beyond. And if you plan for your visit for next year during the 4th of July, you’re going to love their fireworks show as well!

2. Bring your lodging with you and enjoy the beauty of nature

If you like to camp, you can camp at Stone Mountain Park! From tent sites to yurts, you can be one with nature. Or, if you have your own camper or RV, pull on up and park and enjoy.

How fun would it be to explore everything the park has to offer during the day and relax around a campfire at night?!

3. Make a solid plan of action before entering the park

Did I mention that there is a lot of things to do? So much, in fact, that you probably won’t get to do a lot of them in one day.

Before you arrive, map out your plan of action for the attractions that you want to see and do. That way, once you enter the park, you’ll be efficient and get as much done as possible.

4. Stay late for the Lasershow Spectacular

The Lasershow Spectacular is a huge production that you have to see to believe. Laser beams, drones, fireworks, fire, music…and that’s just some of what happens during the show!

It’s an amazing way to end the day after spending all day at Stone Mountain Park.

Lasershow Dates

  • Saturdays only April 13 thru May 18
  • Daily from Memorial Day Weekend thru August 3
  • Saturdays only August 10 thru October 19
  • Please check our Operating Calendar prior to visiting

5. Stop and ride the train

Now, I know what you’re thinking…the train? Yes, for sure. It’s a nice, slow train that goes around the base of the mountain and lasts about 30 minutes. But it gives time for everyone to see everything, get a bit of rest and talk.

It was a great time for us all to regroup and recharge.

6. Ride the Summit Skyride to the top of the mountain

Don’t miss out on the incredible view that the Summit Skyride offers. You’ll have the chance to be 825 feet above the ground and see views as far as 60 miles away!

7. Pack your fishing poles and hiking boots

While there might be rides and fun attractions, Stone Mountain Park is also set up to be an outside oasis as well. There’s fishing, hiking, and even golfing that anyone and everyone can do.

See? I told you that there was literally something here for everyone!

8. Visit during the winter months as well

Did you know that Stone Mountain becomes a cool place to play in the snow as well? So many people visit during the summer, but it needs to be on your radar for winter, too. (the park is open all year long!)
