Abel Brown Southern Kitchen & Oyster Bar in Augusta, GA
There is no question that Augusta is known to be a foodie paradise. If you are looking for upscale, relaxed dining then I recommend to you Abel Brown Southern Kitchen & Oyster Bar. It is hidden just outside the city, in the suburbs of Augusta. This upscale southern charm is equal parts oyster bar and cozy fine dining. The owner and chef Todd Schafer wanted the restaurant to be comfortable enough for people to eat fine dining meals in casual dress. If you are visiting Augusta during Masters’ week, passing through, or vacationing, dining here is a must. If you are visiting Augusta during Masters’ week, passing through, or vacationing, dining here is a must. My friend and I were spending a girlfriends’ weekend in Augusta and knew we couldn’t leave without dining at Able Brown.
Able Brown strives to support local and regional farmers and oystermen. They take pride in only serving dishes made with the freshest ingredients. After learning the history of Able Brown we were eager to try the food which everyone raved about. We were provided with a complimentary meal for our review, but our opinions are our own and never influenced.
We were greeted with our friendly waitress dressed in southern attire with a plaid shirt and blue jeans. Although the restaurant’s food and servers are southern, the decor has a European but casual atmosphere. The restaurant will definitely appeal to the younger demographic.
Within minutes of seating, we were served immediately some fresh bread and a bottle of Moscato.
Abel Brown Southern Kitchen specializes in oysters prepared many different ways. For starters, we opted for the broiled jalapeño lime butter, Parmesan oysters on a half shell. They literally melted in your mouth.
The chef insisted we eat twelve more, so he had them personally delivered to our table! They were that amazing!
While we waited for our main entree to arrive, we chose to split a Wedge of Baby Iceberg Salad served with house made bacon, tomato, and Point Reyes blue cheese dressing.
For our main entree, my friend ordered the Beeler’s Pork Chop served with cheddar and bacon macaroni gratin, summer succotash, and salsa verde.
I chose the Pecan Wood Smoked Rib-eye served alongside fingerlings, mushrooms, onion jam, chimichurri, spring onion, and squash.
Of course, we had to make room for dessert. They dessert menu selection all sounded so amazing, but we took the recommendation from our server to order their famous Chocolate Croissant Bread Pudding made with a decadent chocolate ganache and wild Turkey bourbon crème.
If that wasn’t enough to satisfy our sweet tooth, we also split the delicious Chocolate Bar. This delight is served with candied pistachios, peanut butter ice cream, caramelized banana, and chocolate sauce.
Of course after all that delicious food, we were more than satisfied. Their servings were very generous. The authenticity and refined taste in every dish we tried at The Able Brown Southern Kitchen & Oyster Bar was impeccable! It was evident that each dish was prepared with only the best ingredients, crafted with love and passion for pleasing every person that enters their doors. The presentation of each dish was absolutely stunning.
