It’s next to impossible to read those words without instantly singing the tunes as you recognize the lyrics, right? Now, imagine the privilege of doing that with THE artist who made them famous singing on the stage in front of you, just a few feet away! In this case, that’s Willie Nelson, just one of the most recent performers to grace the stage at Verizon Amphitheater in Alpharetta. The Amphitheater hosts acts new and old (did you know Willie is 85 years young?!-yet, he still gets up on stage and gets down!). This summer, you can see acts from the Steve Miller Band to Rascal Flatts, Phish to Chris Stapleton.

The venue is situated in Alpharetta, north of Atlanta, away from the massive traffic congestion you expect nightly downtown. Of course, traffic can back up before a concert, but nothing like you’d see further south. The Alpharetta Convention & Visitors Bureau can connect you with great places to stay in the area if your drive is far enough that you’ll need to stay the night. Having formerly called this city home, I’m the first to admit it’s a great place to spend a few days (or years, in my case!).
The actual amphitheater is pretty easy to get to and parking is a breeze if you come about an hour before the event. That’s what I recommend. Especially if you want to tailgate beforehand, or if you have VIP passes and want to go in early and enjoy the advantages that come with that extra level. It includes a closer parking lot, special wristbands that get you into an air-conditioned building with a bar and food you can buy, and a much shorter bathroom line than what everyone else faces outside.
But even if you don’t go VIP, you can have plenty of fun with the food and drink options on the grounds.
You can buy assigned seats or pay to ‘be on the lawn’, where it has more of a picnic feel, however, you are not permitted to bring in a cooler or picnic basket.
All in all, it’s a great place to catch your favorite performers, without the hassle or headache of some of the other venues in town. You can bet we’ll be back for more fun in the future!
Until you can make it out there, enjoy this video we shot during the Willie concert last Sunday. Feel free to sing along.
