How to Plan a Romantic Atlanta Staycation at Sonesta Gwinnett Place
If you’re an Atlanta area resident, you don’t have to go far for a romantic getaway. You might be surprised, but one of the fastest growing suburbs has plenty to offer couples that want a weekend away. Sonesta Gwinnett is a great destination for a romantic Atlanta staycation and fits into any budget. The perfect romantic getaway starts with your accommodations. My accommodations were provided to me to help facilitate this review, but my opinions are my own.
Where To Stay in Gwinnett
Look no further than the Sonesta Gwinnett Place located off Pleasant Hill in Duluth, Georgia. It’s located near topnotch entertainment venues and offers an intimate setting. The resort-like property is the best way to start a romantic Atlanta staycation.

The decor was so nice and vibrant, and also decorated so lovely for Christmas.
We were truly in awe the minute we walked into the lobby. You are greeted at the front of the hotel with very friendly and helpful staff members.
Rooms At Sonesta
Sonesta Gwinnett Place Atlanta offers Southern charm with modern appeal. They recently completed some enhancements to their 300 guest rooms and 3 suites with upgrades on both furnishes and linens.
You can even stay in a suite with a full kitchen. These suites offer contemporary, modern touches, and adding the comfort and convenience of home.
Indoor Outdoor Pool and Fitness Center
We were thrilled when we discovered Sonesta Place Gwinnett offered an indoor/outdoor pool and fitness center. We enjoyed the indoor pool every single night and gym in the mornings.
Entertainment
There’s so much fun for couples visiting the Gwinnett area. Daytime entertainment includes sports games, parks and museums. If you’re looking for fast-paced fun, an Atlanta Gladiators hockey game is a great date idea. For a quiet afternoon, take a self-guided driving tour with the Plantation Houses of Gwinnett and discover the area’s rich history.
At night, catch a concert at the Infinite Energy Arena which hosts headlining bands and world-class entertainment each week. For beer lovers, Gwinnett overs several hot-spot taverns that keep the drinks coming. Tannery Row Ale House is known for their craft beer selection, while Iron Horse Tavern is a great spot to chill, wind-down and play darts.
Dining Options
Sonesta Gwinnett Place has on-site dining like ArtBar Restaurant. The atmosphere is both stylish and classic, highlighting local fare. Beautiful artwork dresses the walls.
They offer up signature dishes and drinks, along with weekly entertainment. We enjoyed a few of their delicious Holiday cocktails both nights of our stay. The bartender provided us excellent, personable service.

For breakfast, you can choose to dine at their Grapevine Restaurant. They serve delicious all-you-can-eat buffet style menu items. Buffet prices starting around $15 but worth it. We enjoyed the omelet station and the fresh fruits. They also serve up eggs, grits, oatmeal, waffles, and much more.
If you want to venture out into town, then treat your loved one like royalty at Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament. The fun dinner show offers amazing entertainment, as you watch knights joust and feast on a decadent dinner. Guests love cheering for their knight as they watch the battles unfold while you eat. Don’t forget to take a couple’s photo with your favorite performer as a weekend keepsake.
If you’re feeling adventurous, Gwinnett offers a fabulous array of Vietnamese restaurants that offer a savory trip to explore the tastes of Vietnam, without ever leaving Atlanta. Com Mai Vietnamese Cuisine is a popular restaurant amongst locals that authentic hard-to-find dishes.
Shopping
Gwinnett offers a variety of shopping experiences, from upscale boutiques to one of the largest malls in Georgia.
The downtown Gwinnett area has several art galleries and small boutiques that will please anyone looking for a customized shopping experiences. For name brands, the Mall of Georgia is the premier destination for the labels we love. After a long day of shopping, grab cocktails together at one of the restaurants located at the Mall of Georgia.
Romance Packages Offered at Sonesta Gwinnett Place
They offer a Champagne Romance Package that’s perfect for rekindling and sneaking away from your crazy day-to-day schedules. It includes an indulgent plate of delicious chocolate strawberries, a bottle of champagne upon check-in and breakfast in the hotel’s restaurant, Grapevine. The Champagne Romance Package is offered year round, but it’s recommended to book ahead of time for Valentine’s Day weekend.
The Sonesta Gwinnett Place was truly special, the perfect location, and yes we will be back again. I would highly recommend Sonesta Gwinnett Place for a staycation, retreat, or romantic trip. It is perfect in so many ways.
