I want to introduce you Nanea Mitchell, who is the newest member of the BeForever family. She is a girl who grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1941. I love the history and what she brings to the American Girl line.
We were sent Nanea to facilitate our review. All thoughts and opinions are our own.
Nanea’s Appearance
My girl’s love dressing their American Girl dolls and Nanea is no different. She has an amazing outfit; my girls love her denim white shorts. She has gentle painted lip gloss and beautiful long, dark brown hair. She has larger, hazel yes. There are other fun pieces that can also be added to her wardrobe. The fun part of having an AG doll is dressing her up and adding a personal touch to their outfit.
Growing Up with Aloha: A Nanea Classic
Thankfully, my girls love reading; they get this from their mama. The book that Nanea comes with is not only educational, but we can learn so much about her life. My daughters appreciate and connect with the multicultural families and friendships developed in the story. Let’s go back to WWII for a moment and think about the time during Pearl Harbor attack. Nanea’s story is focused on this time period. For my girls to read about this, they feel like they make a deeper connection into history. While American Girl has created a character like Nanea, this book shows you a kids-eye view of what happened during this time and following. Although the event was sad and horrifying, Nanea’s character fights to keep the aloha spirit alive.
We have owned several American Girl Dolls over the years. My girls and I loved digging into the history that comes with Nanea. It’s so important for my girls to know that we all come from different walks of life and we all bring something unique to the table.
We all have that ONE favorite American Girl Doll. Who is your favorite American Girl Doll and why?
Tied to Nanea’s debut, American Girl is supporting the American Red Cross and their Service to the Armed Forces mission to provide care and comfort to members of the military, veterans, and their families. From 8/21 to December 31, 2017, American Girl will match any customer donation, up to $75,000 maximum, made at americangirl.com or at any American Girl store in the U.S.

I’m always impressed with the story of the character the doll portrays. I like that this doll is set in the 1940’s. The generation that fought in that war is slowly fading and this book will help keep the stories alive, perhaps inspiring children to ask their still-living great-grandparents (or great-great) if they have any memories of the war years.
